General

Is GenMockups free to use?

Yes, completely free. There is no account required, no watermarks on your exports, and no hidden charges. You get full-resolution PNG files with no strings attached - forever.

Can I use the mockup images commercially?

Yes. Images you generate are entirely yours. You can use them in commercial projects, client deliverables, marketing campaigns, portfolio case studies, Product Hunt posts, and anywhere else.

Which devices are supported?

Mobile phone, tablet, laptop (MacBook-style), and desktop monitor - each available in both flat and angled variants, giving you eight frame options in total.

Does the tool work on mobile devices?

The tool is optimized for desktop browsers. Mobile use is possible, but the canvas editor - drag text, resize elements, position callouts - is best experienced on a larger screen with a mouse or trackpad.

Privacy & Data

Do you store my screenshots or website data?

No. Screenshots are processed in memory and never saved to disk or a database. Nothing is retained after your session ends - once you close the tab the data is gone. There is no analytics on your content.

Editor & Features

How does the smart content scan work?

The scan fetches your page's HTML and extracts the og:title and og:description tags for the mockup headline and subheadline. For color, it reads the theme-color meta tag first. If none is found, node-vibrant analyzes the screenshot and extracts the most visually prominent hue - no manual color-picking needed.

What is the difference between flat and angled styles?

Flat shows your screenshot head-on in a clean frontal frame - great for documentation, app store listings, and anywhere precision matters. Angled tilts the device in a subtle 3D perspective for a more dynamic hero-shot feel, which works well for landing pages and social media posts.

Can I add custom text or callout annotations?

Yes. The canvas editor lets you drag a headline and subheadline anywhere on the mockup. You can also add draggable callout annotations - small pointer labels that point to specific parts of the screenshot - useful for highlighting UI features in case studies or walkthroughs.

What image format does the export use?

PNG with a transparent background. Transparency lets you drop the mockup onto any slide background, web page, or design without a white box appearing around it. The export is full-resolution at 2Γ— for crisp display on retina screens.

Troubleshooting

What happens if the website I enter blocks automated browsers?

Some sites block headless browsers with bot-detection (Cloudflare, login walls, etc.). If the capture fails, take a screenshot yourself using your browser's built-in tool or an extension like GoFullPage, then upload the PNG or JPEG directly. The rest of the workflow is identical.
